Colleen and David's Wedding

Davis, Welcome to Austin!

Last weekend we took Davis on his first big road trip to Austin for Colleen and David's wedding. I spent the entire week packing for one night in Austin. Some days Davis can make it through with just one outfit change, but some days we can easily go through five! So you can imagine what my suitcase looked like. I packed about 10 outfits, 5 blankets, 5 burp cloths, 30 diapers, wipes, the pack and play, the bouncy chair, and the stroller.

This never would have fit in the Camry!

Papa Tom thinks Davis would make a good Blues Brother!

Meeting his Great Grandmother for the first time

It was such a fun road trip! We made it to Austin without a cry from Davis. We ended up getting a hotel room at the same hotel as the wedding reception. It was a tight squeeze after we set up the pack and play, but it was just that much more cozy. My parents watched Davis while we went to the ceremony and Diane and Mike took over while we all went to the reception. It was a beautiful wedding and such a fun reception! I posted the pictures from their wedding in the slide show above...enjoy!

Marketing at its Best!

Last night, Davis and I were awake at 3am (like most nights). I had the radio on to help sooth him by creating some white-noise. As I was feeding him, a commercial came on about the benefits of breastfeeding. How brilliant!!! They are marketing to women up at 3am, probably exhausted and miserable, contemplating the switch to formula so their husbands can start doing the 3am feeding.

Bless his Little Nose

Forrest and I both had colds a couple weeks ago and unfortunately, Davis got one too. It started with a tiny little cough, then congestion, then an eye infection and now an ear infection. The kid is 4 weeks old and I've never seen so much medicine! We have eye drops, ear drops, nose drops, and oral medication. It breaks my heart to hear his tiny little cough. Luckily, the cold doesn't seem to bother him. He's been sleeping in his car seat to help prop his head up and I try to give him some relief by sitting in the bathroom with the hot water steaming up the room.

Davis is growing and growing by the minute! He's almost 10 pounds and already wearing some of his 6 month clothes! Davis is sleeping pretty well (or maybe I'm just getting used to no sleep). He usually gives me about 4 straight hours of sleep a night and another good 4 hour nap in the afternoons. Other than that he's wanting to eat every 3 hours and is usually awake (or in and out of sleep). He's a happy baby. Davis loves his swing, his bouncy chair, the paci, and bath time.

We have started to research day cares and nannys. I plan on going back to work in December. It's a tough decision, because I know being a stay-at-home mom is the most rewarding job in the world, but I also miss my work. I am looking forward to getting back to work and catching up with my co-workers, but I dread someone else looking after Davis.

Does this picture even need words? This was taken on the day we brought Davis home...and these lovely cankles didn't disappear for another week or two.

Taste of San Antonio

For Davis' first official outing we decided to give him a little taste of San Antonio at Paloma Blanca, one of our favorite restaurants. I was a little nervous, but felt prepared with all the supporters who joined us for dinner: Annie, Papa, Mom, Dad, Nicole, and Tim. Full table! We got a table in the corner and made sure Davis was cozy, then enjoyed our meal.

Davis' other outings included two trips to the pediatrician's office, dinner out with Melissa, and glider shopping at Sugarplum Dreams.
Our pediatrician visits have been stressful, but reassuring. He's one healthy boy! Eating well for sure, at two weeks he was a pound over his birth weight. At two weeks the Dr likes to see newborns back at their birth weight. I hated watching him get his first round of shots. Thank goodness my mom was there to hold him, I was a wreck, crying right there with him! I made sure to schedule the next appt on a Friday so Forrest would be able to go with me. Next time, I'm told we are getting FIVE shots.
Melissa (my good friend who lives in NYC) came to visit and spent two days taking care of us. She cleaned our house, made our meals, and helped with Davis. It had been almost a year since we had seen each other and it was wonderful to have her here. I usually try to make it to NYC at least once a year, but with the pregnancy I didn't make a trip last year to visit her. I hope to make one last trip, especially before she moves home.

Going, Going, Gone!

The time has come, to make our blog private. Having a little one to protect and watch over has made me a little more cautious. Please leave me a comment with your email address OR email me at: tinafthompson@gmail.com so I can give you access.

Pictures Galore!

I cannot stop taking pictures of our baby boy. There are too many to post to the blog, so I have created another site for your viewing pleasure: http://babyboydavis.shutterfly.com/

I wish I had more time to blog, but any free minute I have, I try to take a nap. Davis is doing really well and enjoying all his visitors. This first week has been a learning experience for all of us, luckily Forrest was home from work. We've also been lucky to have Forrest's parents so close and my mom has been our live-in nanny/maid/dog walker/chef/nurse/etc!
