3...Almost

I have a summer birthday. Growing up, a pool party was always so much fun, but I never got to celebrate my birthday during the school year. And we all know how fun it was to have cupcakes in our honor!

Davis' last week of school, his teacher offered to let the summer birthday kids celebrate. I wasn't sure how I felt about this because I didn't want to confuse Davis. Then I figured he wouldn't be questioning a second birthday celebration in just a few months, so we picked a date to celebrate almost being 3!

Birthday celebrations at St. Davids include a prayer during chapel, a birthday crown, the task of snack leader, and of course, cupcakes!

Happy Memorial Day!

In honor of memorial day, I am posting a picture of my dad from back in the day when he was in the Marines! He's on the far right:

School's Out for Summer!

1st Day of School - August 2011

Last Day of School - May 2012

Tuesday was Davis' last day of school. He didn't completely grasp that fact because when I came to the end of the year party, he kept throwing his hands in the air and shouting, "Time to go home mommy!"

From August to May Davis outgrew his shoes, outgrew those shorts, and got some hair! He really grew up this past year. It took him a couple months to get comfortable with me leaving him in the mornings, but now he loves going to school. Hope he feels that way when August comes back around.

More Fiesta Fun

Davis is fearless! At Alamo Heights night Davis insisted on going in the bubble/hamster ball/whatever you want to call it. I was a little weary which is why I think I sound extra excited on the video. Anyways, onto the clip, here's bubble boy...it takes us a while to think of just the right words to help explain to Davis what he needs to do...

Fiesta!

San Antonio celebrates Fiesta every year for an entire week in April. There's river parades, royalty, carnivals, oyster bakes, dog parades, and much more. If you're new to town, you'll know it's time for Fiesta because every home hangs a colorful wreath on their door! This year for Fiesta we...

...went to Alamo Heights night. It's basically a little carnival with games for the kids and tons of food and drink. Davis loved playing the games!

...went to the Town Club black-tie event. The theme this year was the French Riviera, so we enjoyed Oysters, Crawfish and Gumbo. For fun, I had my palm read, she told me I have TWINS in my future! Other than smelling like New Orleans when we got home, it was a blast!

Same Race, New Look!

When it comes to triathlons, it's all about the gear. And for those who enjoy any hobby, be it fishing, hunting, sewing, scrap-booking, then you understand the obsession with the gear. Triathlon gear can be expensive! The past two years I've worn the same hot pink top, but this year, I decided to splurge and change it up a bit. Check out the blue!

Just finished biking 11 miles!

Mother's Day was not spent sleeping in. I was up at 4am tossing and turning with excitement. Mother's Day was not spent having breakfast in bed. I chugged a bottle of water and ate a Luna Bar in the car. While it wasn't the usual motherly celebrations, I did get to watch the sunrise over the lake. I got to spend the morning with my mom. I heard sweet Davis shout, "Go mom go!" as I crossed the finish line. Nothing better.

The Skeese Greets Triathlon was a great event this year. This is a perfect first triathlon for anyone interested because it's a little shorter than the sprint distance. We also love it because only about 400 women sign up! This is always our warm-up tri for the season.

I arrived super early, which gave me extra time for meeting people and saying hello to friends. After 5 years of racing, you start to see the same people every year. After signing in, getting marked with our numbers, pumping bike tires, and setting up our transition area (with all the fabulous gear) we waited nervously...toes in the sand, goggles on our heads...for the start of the race.

The Swim! This was one of the first times I wasn't nervous to swim. I'm usually guaranteed a panic attack in the water, but after waiting for one to happen and it didn't, I just kept swimming. This was the first year Ann Marie and I didn't start the race together. Bummer growing old and being in the 30-34 age group.

The Bike! I'm usually super pumped to get out of the water and onto the bike. This year I was nervous riding my new bike (my mom's old bike). It's a road-bike so the tires are much thinner than my hybrid bike and the gears and handlebars are different. Because I wait to the last minute to do most things, the first time I rode the bike was the night before the race. And in practicing around the block, my chain came off! So I decided not to mess with the gears too much during the race.

The Run! I've never been a huge fan of running, so this part of the race is always difficult for me. While I'm already tired from the swim and bike, the only thing that gets me through the run is that it's the last leg of the race. Crossing the finish line makes it all worth it!

My mom got 3rd place!
Davis thought she deserved 1st place!

Happy Birthday Mom!

I took the day off work last week to spend the entire day with my mom for her birthday...basically shopping, pampering, and eating! Oh it was so much fun!

We started out at Nordstroms then took a break from shopping and enjoyed a cup of tea and a bag of chips for breakfast (what every birthday girl should do). Then we met my dad for lunch at Mandola's and he had this delicious cake waiting for my mom. We had a slice of cake before eating lunch!

After lunch we walked next door to Embellish, a fabulous nail salon!! We drank champagne and ate chocolates while enjoying the pampering!

Then it was off to continue our shopping...we hit up Bee Hive (an Austin favorite of mine, you must go) and then to the Domain. It had been raining all day, so the Domain wasn't ideal, but there was a surprise waiting for my mom that night, so I had to get her there! We spent the afternoon trying to find a new purse for my mom...and mission accomplished!

Surprise! All my mom's friends were waiting for her at Gloria's for drinks and appetizers.

My cousin Michael! I'm so proud, check out that uniform!

My dad wore this hat ALL day!
Where was Ann Marie, you ask?!? She was working in Dubai that week. We missed her!

Davis Tells a Joke

The other night we were having dinner outside. Davis said, "I want to go back home." We told him he was already at home. When he replied, "oh" we all laughed out loud. And history was made. Davis' first joke, on repeat.
