The Cowboy Rides Away

You guessed it, this post is about George Strait. You might be thinking, she already wrote a rodeo post. I kinda feel like this one deserves it's very own post, don't you? It is George Strait, after all.

I've never seen the big man perform before and jumped at the opportunity for Houston Rodeo tickets! Most of my Dickson side of the family was there, but we were all over the place...some in a box, some at the Director's club, some in 3 seats out of 80,000. It was packed!

The concert was Sunday night so we spent the entire weekend in Houston with my grandparents. They absolutely love having Davis time. Davis is a really big fan of any and all sports, and I do mean ALL. He loves bowling, golf, frisbee, soccer, tennis, badminton, basketball, football, baseball and more. Annie and Papa have one of those fake putting greens that shoots the golf ball back at you, he can't get enough of it and he's actually pretty good at it too.

We ended up spending two days at the rodeo, one with Davis. It was super super crowded. Given that it was a beautiful Saturday, I'm not surprised everyone else in Houston went that day too. Even fighting the crowds, Davis still had fun petting the animals, seeing all the Aggie livestock, watching baby chicks hatch, milking a cow, watching bubble-bees make honey, and planting his very own sunflower seed (which is still growing in our courtyard). The one thing we didn't do (too long of a line) was ride a pony. I think he lived.

The night of George Strait, Papa advised us to get there at noon. The concert, mind you, didn't start till that night. We took his advice and got there early, but not in time for lunch, haha. We did get some shopping in and a pre-drink at the club with Annie and Papa. My parents and my sister actually SAW George Strait pass them in a hallway!!!!!!

For me, country fans, and Texans all the same, George is truly a legend. I got goosebumps when he sang and glassy eyes when I heard Amarillo by Morning. I about fell over when he threw his cowboy hat into the audience. I kinda felt like a teeny bopper at a Justin Bieber concert. What a night! His last song that night after playing for over two hours was perfect, The Cowboy Rides Away. And then we rode away, for a good hour in traffic with the 80,000 people.

The Bakers graciously offered to babysit Davis the night of the concert. Molly and Davis had a grand ole' time playing in the dog cage. Too much fun!

Rodeo Roundup

The San Antonio rodeo came and went and so did the Houston rodeo. We were so lucky this year to get some amazing seats and hang out with close friends. I must admit, being a fan and loyal attendee to the rodeo is a little exhausting. Weeknight after weeknight, eating greasy food, and staying up late is not so easily done as it was in my twenties. And that was just the evenings, because I'm pretty sure every day the rodeo was in town Davis put on his cowboy boots and asked to go! We made it through rodeo season and I have some lovely fuzzy iphone pics to document the entire experience!
