1st Day of School

So much to say about school this year and it's only day 1!

This past summer was spent being those parents that think too much. Actually, I can only speak for myself. I'm pretty sure Forrest gave it 2 minutes thought. I went back and forth on which class Davis would actually be in. Will he be fully potty trained in time? Will he go two days a week or three or five? Will he cry for the first couple of months like he did last year? I used to get first-day-of-school jitters when I was in school and now I'm getting them all over again and we aren't even to Kindergarten yet!

After all the stressing and over-thinking, it all worked itself out. Of course it did. Somehow, he caught onto the potty training thing, which determined he would be in the 3 year old classroom. Then we somehow found a part-time nanny last minute and decided Davis should go to school 3 days a week. Then when we went to meet-the-teacher day he wanted to stay and play (we had to literally drag him back to the car), we could tell he was very ready for school to start!

Leading up to the first day of school, we did what every parent would do, we made a big deal about a new outfit and new shoes (he talked me into the "cool" shoes that light up). We got the bag monogrammed in his choice of color, red. We packed his favorite foods for lunch, PB&J with applesauce.

Last night, I set my alarm for 6:30am, which would give him and I plenty of time to enjoy breakfast, get ready, take 1st day of school pics, and get out the door by 8:20. Lucky for me, I didn't have to depend on my alarm, Davis was up at 4:45am! Whoa! Everything leading up to today had gone in our favor, till 4:45am.

So here are the pics of mister cranky pants himself...who was telling me..."don't take my picture! no pictures mom! stop!" Well excuse me, I'm just trying to document the first day of school. Is this what the next 18 years are going to be like?

Hope he is in a better mood for his teacher, Ms Amy. I will say he was a joy to drop off! No sarcasm there. The entire minute drive to school (we could have, should have walked) he was shouting things like, "Take me to school! I want to play basketball with the boys! I have chapel money!"Because we have graduated to the 3 year old class, we are considered "big kids" and get to use the drop off ramp. No tears. Barely a good-bye. Just jumped out of his car seat and ran into the school. It's bitter sweet. You want your baby to need you, but you also want them to be excited for school. He was super duper excited, his words.

As he was walking away and the car door closed...mom was left all by herself...good bye sweet boy, hope you have a great day at school, miss you, love you, be nice to the other kids, listen to your teacher, eat your lunch, take a nap, can't wait to pick you up today and hear all about your first day!

Maybe we will try for day 2 photos!

Davis Turns 3!!!!!

We love July birthdays around here (yes, I realize it's well into August by now)!! Davis turned 3 and he could not have been more excited about his big day! The second he realized it was July (i.e. when the Disney channel announced, "it's July") he came bouncing into my room screaming with sheer delight, "Mom, mom, it's July, it's my birthday!" I was so proud he realized it was July and knew it was his birthday. I then realized I needed to also teach him that July has 31 days and he still had 27 days of July till his actual birthday. Sweet boy, July went by way too slow.

On his actual birthday I took the day off from work and we did whatever he wanted to do, which happened to be things I love to do too! We went on a walk, to Starbucks, to the park, lunch with his friends (and mine), to Target, and ended the day with dinner at Nana and Pop's.

He made us sing 3 times!

Ladder Golf!
His birthday party was the next day at our neighborhood pool. For the entire two hours, he climbed up the stairs and flew down the slide! Over and over and over again. According to him, he's a big boy now and doesn't need a life jacket. He is a pretty good swimmer. We had swim lessons the week before his birthday and since then, he's been diving inn and swimming to the side by himself!

Shooting out of the slide!

Serving everyone some fruit!

The Baker's came!

The Adcocks, sweet Emery is a huge fan of the water!

Uncle Mark!

Thomas cake made by my mom and sister!

Davis with all the boys!
Time for the adults to try the slide!

Happy 90th Grandma

In July, my Grandmother (Dad's mom) turned 90! It was a beautiful party complete with an accordion serenade. Grandma had four boys and luckily they married amazing women who know how to throw a party!

We started the night with a lovely spread of antipasto and a little video tribute to Grandma. Dinner and lots of wine followed with all our Italian favorites, Grandma's meatballs, stuffed shells, lasagna, and more. To make sure our bellies were full, we also devoured an Italian creme cake!

What more do you need than food to satisfy a couple Italians? Bocce, swimming, and an accordion of course!

Waiting for the video to begin!

Happy 90th Grandma! We love you!

Davis got a birthday gift too, he loves to fish! Thanks Dede!

Renee and Robert, proud Italians!

This is Davis' new dance move...head bobbing with one leg up.

It's been a while...

I'm back! Did you think I was stranded on a fabulous tropical island? Sadly, I do not have vacation pictures to post and do not have a good reason for taking a blog break. We've just been super busy like the rest of the world. Now it's time to catch you up!

First of all, WE SOLD OUR HOUSE!!! After about 50 showings over 100 days and scrambling to keep a clean house, someone made an offer, we accepted, and it's done. Obviously it wasn't that easy, but I can dream. I don't want to recap the horribleness that engulfed us for weeks trying to make the buyer happy. Let's just say, Good-bye Inslee!

After a weekend of hauling boxes and heavy furniture to a storage unit, the house was empty and we decided to have a pizza party with our friends! We toasted to our favorite memories in the house...bringing Davis home from the hospital, late night fires on the back porch, girl's nights watching Bachelor, trick-or-treating, and many more.

Now, I know you're all wondering where we are living and what's next! We bought a house just a couple blocks down from the old house and are remodeling it! In the meantime, we are living with Forrest's parents. I'll post soon with pics of the new house!
